This September, independent online-exclusive brand Colourpop, launched its “Fall Edit” collection – bringing together a mix of eyeshadows and lipsticks in beautiful berry, orange, and plum shades. As someone who loves crisp fall weather and ready to trade in summer makeup looks for fall ones, I could not resist ordering and doing a mini-haul this last month. Check out my Colourpop Fall Edit review below!
Paradox:

“Paradox” eyeshadow
Described as a “cool toned burgundy red”, Paradox is a beautiful eyeshadow with a satin finish. While described as a “burgundy”, Paradox pulls much more like a true red, than a deep wine color. Initially, I felt a little disappointment about this, but I’ve come to fall in love with such a stunning shade! Although it looks bright in the pan and swatches, when applied and blended properly it is easily wearable. The real trick, if you want a more true burgundy, is blending it with a slightly darker color. To create a smokey fall look, I pair “Paradox” with a lighter orange (in the inner corner) and blend the outer edges with a dark matte brown. The brown, blended with the red, deepens the shade to a more rustic red.
Believe it or not, this was my first ever order from Colourpop…& wowI was missing out! Paradox feels incredibly buttery and pigmented. The long-wearing shadow is soft and cushion-y to the touch in the pan. Furthermore, I did not experience any fall out. When paired over my favorite primer (Too Faced Shadow Insurance) it lasted it 12 hours without fading or creasing.

Ultra Matte Lip: Mama
Falling (ha pun) in line with this season’s theme is Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Lip in the shade Mama. On me, with my medium skin tone and warm/yellow undertones, this lipstick is a perfect bold burnt orange. It is a few shades brighter than a terracotta color. While some shy away from an orange lip, Mama is not difficult to pull off, given that its more a “burnt” orange than neon or coral. I believe this would be particularly flattering on medium, olive, and dark skin tones.
In terms of formula, Mama is a true matte liquid lipstick. It dries down immediately after application with the doe foot wand, and applies evenly without streaking. This lipstick is transfer-proof, and because it’s matte and somewhat drying, lip balm before is a must. Throughout the day, it wore through 2 full meals…I’m incredibly impressed! While not overly drying, it tends to get a little crumbly and flaky by the 6th hour. However, I am amazed at the quality at a $6 price point!

Baracuda (top), Paradox (middle), Mama (bottom)
Ultra Satin Lip: Baracuda
My final purchase of Colourpop’s Fall Edit is Baracuda, a warm deep mauve in their Ultra Satin Lip formula. Baracuda is another color great for those looking to transition bright summer pinks to darker muted ones. On me, the color shows similar to the lip swatch online, just a tiny bit deeper. This gorgeous lipstick can be an every day go-to product or great at night paired with a smokey eye, like I wore for this year’s Fall Ball.
I found the Ultra Satin Lip formula to be less drying than the Ultra Matte counterpart. Baracuda, like Mama, goes on evenly and very pigmented with just one swipe. The trade off with a more comfortable formula is that it does transfer quite a bit. Although it does not dry down completely, Baracuda is still one of my more long wearing lipsticks. It last through 4 hours and a meal without a need for reapplication. I’m still very impressed and highly recommend Baracuda! (Sidenote: the misspelling of the shade name by Colourpop drives me a little nuts as I write this post).
