I think every summer we think the same thing…where did summer go?!? I feel like I just graduated in May and here I am writing about what I’ve been loving in June, July, & August. This summer has been a somewhat hectic, but very rewarding, time of my life. And when I haven’t been apartment hunting, working, or with my friends I’ve been over here testing and trying new things to share with you all! Check out below for my summer favorites (+ giveaway from my blogger friend)! PS while it may seem the onset of September equals the end of summer, the season technically doesn’t end till the 22nd.
Travel (+ Trip Giveaway with EcoTourLinQ!)
As many of you know, I love both traveling and sustainable living. While travel can be an amazing experience, it’s important now more than ever to consider its impact on the environment and the footprint we leave behind. That’s why I’m excited to share that a website/organization and fellow blogger’s whose mission I stand behind-responsible ecotourism- is running a giveaway that I wanted to share in my summer favorites. So guys…it’s trip giveaway promotion time!
You could win a nature-themed trip for 2 to Grand Bahama Island (in The Bahamas)! Stay 5 days and 4 nights at a luxury resort and enjoy guided walks and snorkeling adventures! Includes ferry transportation to/from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The promotion ends September 30, 2017 and the trip is for early 2018. Click the link for official rules and the entry form: https://www.ecotourlinq.com/
EcoTourLinQ connects travelers with socially responsible resources, companies, and guides to tourism with environmental conservation in mind. Besides entering, I definitely recommend checking out Deborah’s site and learning more (I enjoy the newsletter I get each month!).
Mint green is THE color I’ve been feeling this year-the pastel hue is just so stylish and screams warmer months to me! This purse from Target has to be one of my top summer favorites. Normally, I gravitate towards larger, more statement, bags but this smaller satchel size is perfect for a day or night exploring the city and just the right size for my phone, wallet, and keys. Doesn’t the color just make you think pistachio or mint chocolate chip ice cream?
LL Bean Maine Isle Flip Flops
Nothing says summer fashion like a pair of flip flops. While you can get a pair for $1, I have to say the L.L. Bean ones are so worth going the next step up. They’re so comfortable and have some curve/shape to them, making them better for your feet than the average rubber kind. Furthermore, they’re super high quality and will definitely last you multiple summers. I’ve been buying these for years now and can’t recommend them enough. I picked up 2 new pairs this summer- this bright blue pattern and the coral polka dot ones!
Free Press Bralette
Admittedly, for so long I never got bralettes. However, I retract this after finding the most amazing ones at Nordstrom Rack. After buying a maxi dress this spring, I needed to find a bra that serves its purpose while looking cute and more appropriate. Free Press bralettes come in a variety of colors, and fit true to size. I love the halter style and the fact there is some support; it’s not flimsy lace, but not overly hot for the summer. I found mine at my local Nordstrom rack but they’re also sold online.

Neutrogena Clear Face Liquid Lotion Sunscreen
As I’ve moved into my 20’s and summer, I’ve made a particular effort to get on board with healthy skincare practices. I’ve been loving this Neutrogena Sunscreen to both fight UVA/UVB rays, designed specifically for the face. I apply this after moisturizing, wait a minute or two to sink into the skin, then go on applying a primer or BB cream over it! This is oil-free, paraben-free, doesn’t get greasy, or leave a white cast all of which are so important in a face sunscreen. On lazy days, I do this and skip the primer and because of the slightly tacky texture it does keep my makeup from sliding around.
Aquaphor Lip Primer
On the topic of sun care, don’t forget your lips! Unlike face products, most lipsticks or glosses don’t have SPF in them. Skin around the lips is often delicate and thin, so protecting them under the hot sun is super important. The Aquaphor lip balm with SPF 30 does a great job of both hydrating and creating a barrier between them and the sun. Oftentimes, I wear it alone but it also works well as a moisturizer under lipstick. It doesn’t feel sticky or have a bad taste-I’m definitely glad I discovered it this summer.
ELF Beautifully Bare Blending Brush
This summer I decided to upgrade my brush collection a bit and went in search of a new bronzer brush. I picked up the ELF blending brush in July and can’t say enough good things about it. The somewhat dense, fan shape of this makes bronzing and/or contouring really easy. It really gets at that perfect angle into the hollows of your cheeks. I love how the bristles are packed in enough to pick up product, but aren’t overly dense to make blending difficult. This ELF brush is one of my top summer favorites in the beauty department!
Pro Tip: For a more all over bronze look on the cheeks, use the flatter side against the face. To contour, angle the brush up a little more for a sharper, more defined look.
Oftentimes my pleasure reading focuses on historical fiction but this young adult novel really captured my attention this summer. Girl in Translation is about a young Chinese immigrant’s experience coming to America, working in a sweat shop, and really building the American dream. It interweaves these heavier experiences with light topics like navigating American fashion and boyfriends. Overall I think it’s really well done and the narrative and story line really makes you want to root for the character. As an Asian American myself, I found it both an enjoyable yet enlightening read.
& that about wraps up my summer favorites! What have you been loving this time of year? I’d love to hear some recommendations or what you all have been up to these past couple months. Drop me a comment below.
Until next time,
