In order to review it in its true form, I applied the CoverGirl Matte BB cream to a bare face with no primer. Additionally, I did not set it with any powder to test the “matte” claim. Right off the bat, I liked the consistency. It is not too thick nor too thin or watery. The product applied very smoothly. I found this is something you can easily apply with your fingers- a real positive in my opinion. Personally, I think of BB creams as low maintenance products, so I like when you can skip using a brush.
The product blended easily and shade 540 is a perfect match for my skin. Overall, the CoverGirl Matte BB Cream provides medium coverage. BB creams are not meant to provide full coverage like foundations, so if you aim to cover a pimple or more prominent blemishes, I’m not sure it will cover these completely. However, the coverage with this one is buildable and definitely helped even out my skin tone. It didn’t appear cakey or cling to dry spots but also didn’t look greasy. My initial thoughts were that it is lightweight and easy to blend. (For reference, I have combination skin, leaning towards an oily t-zone, especially in these hot summer months).
After applying the rest of my makeup, I found the BB cream provides a truly natural looking base. I applied the CoverGirl Matte BB cream at 9am and went about my daily routine which consists of a full day of classes and running around campus for various things. The wear time and matte finish of this product really wow-ed me. Amazingly, with no primer, it lasted to around 4pm before I noticed fading. As I mentioned, I didn’t set the product with anything. And despite living in an incredibly humid climate right now, this product really did keep me oil free throughout the day. I am thoroughly impressed with the staying power and shine-control!
I highly recommend the CoverGirl Matte BB cream 🙂 It is a wonderful option for anyone with combination or oily skin looking for a medium coverage and long-wearing BB cream at an affordable price point. After testing and trying the product I found it reminds me a lot of my holy grail product, Tarte’s BB Tinted Moisturizer… but 1/5 of the cost. I definitely will be using the CoverGirl one again and adding it to my list of favorite drugstore products.
