During this time of year, the cold weather undoubtedly sets in here on the East Coast meaning drier air and drier skin. Personally, I like to switch up my beauty routine once the temperatures start dropping to focus more on hydration. I think even people like me, with combination skin, benefit from more moisturizing and illuminating products in the winter. Below I listed a few of my key winter skincare essentials I’ve tried/tested and found to work well!
My Winter Skincare Essentials: An Easy Guide
Simple Moisturizing Face Wash
- Find it here ($7.99)
In its basic white packaging, this caught my eye at CVS as an affordable face wash. I still like an exfoliating one every couple days, but needed a new daily one for this time of year. The “Simple” (yes that’s its name) line includes no dyes, perfumes, and is designed with sensitive skin in mind. After reading the description and a few reviews, I picked it up and so far I’m really enjoying it. I squeeze about a pea size amount onto my hand, then lather it with a little water, and massage it onto my face. I really notice it’s keeping my face more hydrated so a big fan of this!
Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer
- Find it here ($17.49)
For years, this has been my go-to moisturizer and yet again it hasn’t failed. It’s great for all year round but really a daily necessity in the winter. I find it does a great job of really keeping my skin hydrated throughout the day. As a bonus it also includes a low amount of SPF but any amount is really helpful since applying sunscreen usually goes on the back burner when summer ends.
Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer
- Find it here ($36)
Another product I love, but never hear talked about much in the beauty community, is Tarte’s BB Tinited Moisturizer. Thankfully, since I don’t have any glaring or major skin issues I opt for BB cream as a base, instead of foundation. This Tarte one blends seamlessly on my face and doesn’t cling to dry patches. Although it doubles as a moisturizer, hence the name, I still apply my Aveeno one underneath. I do find the Tarte BB cream gives a great, slightly dewy finish and is quite long lasting…a major plus with my busy lifestyle. (Another bonus: includes 20 SPF). It is a bit on the pricey side but I think it’s really worth it.
Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion
- Find it here ($9.49)
Besides their facial moisturizer, I’m also a fan of Aveeno’s Daily Body Lotion to lock in hydration. It applies smoothly and doesn’t feel greasy or like it will stain my clothes. Guys, I swear this post isn’t sponsored by Aveeno (lol!). I just think they really nabbed the right formula for products that are gentle on the skin but also keep it from drying out.
The Sacred Truth Face Mask
- Find it in your local Lush store (and don’t forget to refrigerate it!)- ($9.99)
Admittedly, walking into the often tiny Lush stores can kinda be an assault on the senses…but they have damn good products. I’m a big fan of their face masks and in particular the Sacred Truth one. It contains green tea and papaya to help soften and tone skin in the most gentle way. I like to use Lush face masks a couple times a week, I feel like the natural ingredients are really purifying making it one of my top winter skincare essentials.
One thing you may notice absent from this list is a good facial primer! I typically alternate between the Ulta Matte Primer and Elf Mineral Infused one, but neither work for me in the winter months. (Don’t get me wrong, both are great products though). Does anyone have any recommendations of moisturizing facial primers, preferably water-based, I can add to my repertoire of winter skincare essentials?? Let me know in the comments:
Stay warm and hydrated this winter, until next time…
